BoConcept - 10 Years of the Imola Chair

To celebrate a decade of Imola, BoConcept is launching a limited-edition version of their iconic Imola chair in luxurious black velvet with a matte black base, a numbered plaque and a certificate of authenticity.

Imola’s shape is inspired by one of the two swirling halves of a tennis ball. The curves of its form are juxtaposed by the sharp edges of its side panels. That mix gives the design tension and elevates the viewer’s sense of visual comfort. Unlike most chairs, where curves are typically expressed as parts of a circle – perhaps a quarter or an eighth – Imola’s curves are fluid and truly organic.

When asked how one designs an icon, designer Henrik Pedersen responded, “You don’t. In fact, setting out with that intention is the easiest way to ensure failure. I think all icons are simply the product of turning up and putting in your best work. And in time, with a little luck, the world recognises your effort in the final product.”
